The Sugar Cane Industry of Southern Louisiana

During my first 6 months of living in Louisiana I had the chance to be a bartender at a local run distillery. Many of my shifts I was kept company by one of the farmers that provided the sugar for the distillery. Sugar cane is big industry here in Louisiana. Driving through the small towns you often find yourself surrounded on all sides by stalks shaking in the breeze. In the fall you’ll see billows of smoke pillowing in the air and they burn their crop for harvesting. It’s quite a site for those who haven’t seen fields on fire before.
